Will they or won’t they, after the flurry of global news reports that Led Zeppelin were set to reform to play a tribute concert in memory of their former record boss, Ahmet Ertgun, with the possibility of a world tour to follow. It seems yet again that those flames of hope have been well and truly doused.
Speaking at a press conference for the Greek Rockwave Festival, singer Robert Plant denied any knowledge of such, jokingly saying;
“If there was one (a reunion), then there wouldn’t be enough doctors to support it!”
It was claimed that singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham - the son of the original Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham – were to perform the gig as a tribute to the late Atlantic Records founder.
It seems talk of a Led Zeppelin reunion is par for the course, being touted every couple of years since the three surviving members played together back in 1988 for the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary Concert after nearly 20 years apart.
Most people think that Jason Bonham, the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, should play drums on the legendary rock group’s “reunion” tour, but back in 2003 Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl was quoted as saying he should get the job instead.
“Here’s my new mission. Led Zeppelin is doing a reunion tour. John Paul Jones, Robert Plant. I gotta get that drumming gig. I gotta do it if Starkey don’t get it,”
Its great we can get a Spice Girls reunion but not a Led Zeppelin one.
